Drop fruit and vegetables into a cup and merge matching pieces into bigger ones in yeqwep's Suika-style puzzle, aiming for an A rank before the cup spills.
Watermelon Drop is a merge puzzle by the developer yeqwep, who also made Cats Drop. It belongs to the Suika family of merge games: pieces of produce fall into a cup, matching pieces fuse into a larger one, and the challenge is keeping the pile low enough that nothing spills out. The game is built with the Defold engine and runs in the browser on computers, phones and tablets.
How to play
A piece waits above the cup. Move the mouse left or right to position it, then click to let it fall. On a touch screen you do the same with your finger. Where a piece ends up depends on what is already sitting in the cup, so it pays to watch the pile before each drop.
When two identical pieces touch, they join into the next size up. That new piece can then meet its own twin and merge again, so one well-placed drop can set off a chain. The run is over once the cup is so full that a piece goes over the rim.
What is in the cup
Unlike most games of this type, the set mixes fruit with vegetables. The cover art shows a blueberry, corn, a tomato, an orange, a lemon, an apple, an eggplant, a melon and, as the star of the title, a big watermelon, all drawn with cartoon faces. The build contains a ladder of piece sizes, each one a step bigger than the last.
Scoring
Clearing pieces through merges is how you raise your score. When the game ends, your result is given a letter rank, with A at the top end, and the game keeps your best score so you can try to beat it with the retry button.
Tips
- Think about chains: a merge creates a bigger piece, so drop it where that bigger piece will touch its own twin.
- Look at the waiting piece before you drop, and aim it next to its twin rather than just into an open gap.
- Watch the rim. The run ends on the first piece that goes over, so a tall stack near the top is the main thing to avoid.
